Where can people turn to for career advice in Scotland? There are a number of organisations and websites that can give advice, support and information, and provide opportunities to search for work, training and apprenticeships in Scotland.

Skills Development Scotland 

Skills Development Scotland is the central body that helps people of all ages in Scotland improve their work-based skills. It runs careers information, advice and guidance services that equip the workforce of today and tomorrow with the skills to achieve their potential. If you are a school leaver in Scotland, you will be able to see careers advisers from Skills Development Scotland. In these career conversations, you will get an understanding of the skills in demand from employers and the options available to move into the world of work. You will find Skills Development Scotland offices on the high street and across community locations.  

My World of Work 

My World of Work is a careers information hub for school leavers in Scotland. Some of the resources available include tools to help you learn what jobs may interest you and understand the skills you have that could help you in your career.  

You can search for jobs, apprenticeships, further and higher education courses, volunteering opportunities, free online courses, as well as information on funding and grants to support learning. There is also the chance to get tips on CV writing and interview techniques.  

The My Job Scotland career hub 

This is a brilliant platform! As well as providing a huge range of information about job hunting, apprenticeships and volunteering, there is a search engine that gives you the opportunity to search for jobs in construction.  

The My Job Scotland Career Hub also includes a range of information including information on how to apply for jobs, understand the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework, develop effective interview skills, volunteer and apprenticeships.

One of the best websites to look for current apprenticeship vacancies is Talentview. You can filter your searches by job role, location and specific apprentice levels.  

The CLC Talent Retention Scheme 

The Construction Leadership Council’s Talent Retention Scheme (TRS) is for experienced candidates and jobs in construction. A simple, free and easy to use platform, it allows you the chance to showcase your experience and expertise to potential employers. 

The major job portals 

You can also register with job sites such as Indeed or TotalJobs. You’ll be able to upload your CV and set up job alerts to help you find suitable opportunities. Employers will also be able to contact you directly. 

Google job search 

You can search for anything on Google, and jobs are no different. The Google Careers search engine allows you to filter by job area, location, skills and qualifications and organisations. Upload a profile and apply directly for any job listed.
